The Space Girls are excited to announce their two semi-finalists for the fifth Self-Published Sci-Fi Contest.

The Space Girls are excited to announce their semi-finalists for the fifth Self-Published Sci-Fi Contest!

In our last update, we shared that we had selected seven (unofficial) quarter-finalists, who we were reading to completion to decide on our final two semi-finalists. (You can find out more information on the team and how the contest works on our Team Update page.)

We have now come to a decision, after much deliberation!

Special mention

The cover of The Seeds of Dissolution, by William C. Tracy

Special mention goes to The Seeds of Dissolution, by William C. Tracy, with an average judges score of 8.02.

“It was very easy for me to get sucked into the world of The Seeds of Dissolution, much easier than for poor Sam into the Nether. I was enamored with the colorful world, the alien species, the strange combination of magic and technology,” said Hel, in her review.

Our semi-finalists

Cover of Artificial Selection by Marianne Pickles

We are delighted to announce Artificial Selection, by Marianne Pickles, with an average score of 8.73.

“I really loved this one – I was utterly absorbed straight away in the world, and loved the main characters, Charlotte and Ben. I couldn’t put it down and will be reading the next book in the series!” said Claire.

And in first place, is Our Simulated Selves, by Nikki Null, with an average score of 9.07!

“This book certainly made me consider the ‘simulated selves’ many of us adopt to fit into society, knowing (and often unknowingly because that’s what we’ve been taught) that that that self is not who we really are; if we are lucky enough, we become who we are meant to be, but for some, sadly that day never comes,” says Kerry in her review.

“To me, Our Simulated Selves feels like a closeted queer version of 500 Days of Summer meets soft corporate crime thriller. The book is bold, spares no expense hitting those boxing jabs and equally entertains,” says Nancy in her review.

Congratulations to Marianne and Nikki – and best of luck in the rest of the contest!
