This year, the Book Bloggers’ Novel of the Year Award (BBNYA) is celebrating the books that made it to the semi-finals with a mini spotlight tour for each title.

BBNYA is a yearly competition where book bloggers from all over the world read and score books written by indie authors, ending with 15 finalists and one overall winner. Find out more on their website or on Twitter. BBNYA is brought to you by The Folio Society (the home of gorgeous books!) and the book blogger support group, The Write Reads.

I’m excited to be one of the panelists for BBNYA so I will be highlighting some of the books that either I read in Rounds One and Two, or that sound exciting and I’d like to read in the future.

My first impressions of Miracle Man

I read a 2k excerpt of Miracle Man in round one and a 10k excerpt in round two. Here are some of my first impressions:

  • Really loved the author’s writing style. This was well written, descriptive, and with realistic dialogue and character reactions/thoughts.
  • I wasn’t sure about this excerpt at first (it starts with a dog being run over), but it was definitely a rollercoaster as the dog is then brought back to life by the main character, Milton. I felt very emotionally invested in the whole story from the start!
  • Great start to the story! Really enjoyed it. Was left with lots of questions about what was going to happen next and the consequences.

This was one of my favourites from the second round so I’d definitely recommend checking it out, and I’m looking forward to reading the whole book once the contest ends.

Milton Fisk was a good man, once.

Then came the day when he discovered his gift.

He can heal with a touch.

He can resurrect the dead.

Now known as Elijah Zion, Miracle Man, he is worshipped by billions. Kings and presidents bow before him. He is the most powerful man on Earth.

But it is not enough…

There was only one other man in history with Elijah’s powers, and Elijah Zion hates Him with a passion.

He will tear down the old gods if it takes him an eternity, and from that day onward, the world will know only the name, Elijah Zion.

Milton’s best friend from boyhood and the woman he once loved are the only ones who know the truth. They have vowed to stop him, but do mere mortals stand a chance against the Miracle Man?

Healer. Killer. Blasphemer. Anti-Christ. Evil Incarnate.

Elijah Zion, Miracle Man.
