This year I am taking part in Blogtober — a challenge to post daily blogs throughout the month of October.
This will be the first time I’ve taken part and I’m looking forward to the challenge! I’m especially looking forward to sharing my interviews with authors and bloggers.
1. What is your favorite fall accessory?
Now that it’s starting to get a bit colder during the day and in the evenings, I can usually be found wearing one of my Spirithoods! These are faux fur hats with cute little ears and long sleeves that have pockets in the end. They are incredibly soft and come in a variety of different colours, with different animal fur styles and linings. I have four different ones — a Grey Wolf hood, and three hoods with galaxy liners (created in a collaboration with Australian clothing company BlackMilk). I also have a Grey Wolf calf-length coat which has a purple galaxy liner — it feels like wearing a warm hug!
They were expensive (and they seem to have gone up in price now) and quite a few companies now make similar ones. But they are incredibly cozy, soft and the fur is very realistic — I’ve even been asked a few times if they are real fur! I would love to get one of their blankets one day as they look perfect for snuggling under on a cold night.
2. Where do you go to purchase new Halloween decorations / items?
Pre-COVID I got lots of amazing spooky items from my local HomeSense store. It’s one of those places that is great to find things you don’t ‘need’, but want to have (they mostly seem to sell notebooks, candles, cushions, and misc furniture). They are part of the same group as TK Maxx so everything is really cheap too!
When I had a Halloween party a few years ago, I bought decorations from Amazon. These were really cute and fun! (The Amazon links used here are affiliate links — I will receive a small commission from Amazon for any purchases you make.)
3. What is one autumn tradition you have?
Fireworks! I always have to go and see the fireworks on Guy Fawkes Night! I love fireworks and have been to various displays over the years, including ones at Wimpole Hall and in Harlow.
In addition a friend’s parents host a firework night every year in their back garden. There’s always a big bonfire, lots of warm food, great company and some fireworks. It didn’t take place last year because of COVID and lockdown restrictions, but I hope it will be on again this year!
4. What is your favorite Halloween Movie?
While I love reading horror fiction (for example I love the Patience of a Dead Man trilogy by Michael Clark I read last year), I’ve never been a fan of horror movies. I hate jump scares (and I jump very easily), though I don’t mind more ‘psychological horror’ films. I have seen Babadook in the past, which I really enjoyed. And, if it counts, I love the Alien films!
I really love IT by Stephen King so I hope that one day, I will be able to watch the film adaptations.
5. What is one candy you’d hope to not see in your bag while trick-or-treating?
Bounty bars! They are always the ones left over at the bottom of the Celebrations box…
I also really hate mint, so any mint chocolate is out!
6. Pumpkin spice latte or hot chocolate?
I tried a pumpkin spice latte for the first time last year, as I always hear so much hype online about them and felt I was missing out. But I absolutely hated it! So definitely hot chocolate for me — the more cream and marshmallows, the better!
7. Coziest thing to wear as the weather gets colder?
As well as the Spirithoods I talked about above, I love being able to snuggle up in warm jumpers and under a fleece blanket.
I also have two BlackMilk ‘snuggle suits’, which are basically just their catsuits with a zip and a fleece lining. (Okay, so they are basically a onesie, but they are fitted!) They are super comfortable and perfect for wearing on days when it’s cold. They currently have two available on their website, a Brains themed Halloween one and a Galaxy print one!
8. What is the coolest design you’ve ever carved or painted onto a pumpkin?
Sadly, I have never carved a pumpkin before! Last year I went to a pumpkin patch for the first time at Hatters Farm which was great — I really enjoyed the afternoon out. This year I’d love to go to another pumpkin patch, pick out a pumpkin and then be able to carve it myself!
9. Do you prefer bonfires on an autumn evening or haunted houses once the sun is down?
Definitely bonfires — I always get excited around Halloween as it feels like that’s the start of colder days, feeling cozy and wrapping up warm. From Halloween, it’s Guy Fawkes, then it’s time to get ready for Christmas (and my birthday). It’s my favourite time of year!
10. What are you most excited for this autumn?
Mostly I am looking forward to seeing friends and family again. Things have only recently opened back up without restrictions in the UK and there are many friends I haven’t been able to see yet. I am excited for bonfires and fireworks!
