The pedicure area of the Tea Room at Cecily Day Spa

I was recently invited to the Cecily Day Spa launch party following its recent refurbishment and re-branding!

Cecily Day Spa is located on the High Street in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. All of their products are cruelty-free, and vegan and organic wherever possible — something that is really important for me in beauty products! They offer a range of services and treatments in a relaxing, luxurious and welcoming environment. Cecily shares a building with Alchemy & I, a hair salon and blowdry bar with a fully licenced bar serving cocktails and bubbles. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy some self-care!

I received a free invitation to the event which included a choice of free treatments. However, all views here are my own and Cecily had no content control.

About Cecily

Cecily is named after Cecily Neville, the last resident of Berkhamsted Castle. She was the mother of Edward IV and the infamous Richard III, and her husband, the Duke of York, was the leading contender for the throne in the War of the Roses. You may know her from Shakespeare’s the Tragedy of Richard III and in the Cousins’ War book series by Philippa Gregory, as she is a key character in both! Cecily was known as “the Rose of Raby” because of her beauty. She was also a strong and powerful woman, and lived to 80! There are many references to her throughout the Spa which is a really nice touch!

The Day Spa offers a range of treatments including facials, eyelash extensions, eyebrow shape and tint, manicures, pedicures, massage and waxing. They will also be shortly offering piercings, microdermabrasion and microblading (semi-permanent eye tattoos) too — everything you need to feel pampered!

About my visit

I visited the Spa with Jupiter Hadley (who wrote about her experience here), and we were greeted by the owner, Haylee. As it was the launch day we enjoyed some lovely cupcakes and complimentary drinks in the Tea Room. I had Get Up and Glow, a juice mix of Carrot, Orange, Apple and Tumeric, which was delicious! After finishing our cupcakes I was introduced to my technician, Hollie.

I decided to go for a Shape and Paint pedicure. While I often have manicures and gel nails, I have never had a pedicure before! When I was ready, I stepped up to one of the luxurious arm chairs, and took my socks and shoes off. Hollie then showed me their range of gel polishes that I could choose from. Cecily have a huge range of colours — there is certainly something for everyone! I prefer glitter and sparkle finishes so I went for a sparkly red polish.

Once I had decided on the colour, I sat back and got comfortable! Hollie trimmed my toe nails and then shaped them with a file. She then applied gel to my nails, and each set was then set under a UV lamp for 30 seconds. Finally, she applied the polish, which again had to be set under a UV lamp.

Hollie was really friendly and made me feel really comfortable (very important, as someone who often feels awkward and clumsy!). Afterwards, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of my drink and had another cupcake!

The refurbished rooms

Cecily Day Spa has just been refurbished, and it is absolutely stunning. It is over multiple floors, with a waiting area on the ground floor next to the Alchemy & I hair salon. The newly styled rooms have an art deco feel — my favourite style of interior decor!

On the first floor is the Tea Room, which is the space for the manicures and pedicures. On the left side of the room are the manicure tables, while the left has the pedicure area. In the centre is a bar with seats to enjoy hot and cold drinks — and I just had to spend some time admiring the beautiful chandelier!

The Lash and Brow parlour and each of the treatment rooms have been individually designed to a high standard. Cecily use many of their own branded products, which are all cruelty-free, as well as vegan and organic where possible. They even have a double bed treatment room, so you can get treatments with a friend. Each room has a QR code so that you can order drinks from your phone — a great idea!

All of the rooms are absolutely beautiful. I loved the attention to small details, such as the beautiful William Morris wallpapers, the floral wall and even Cecily logos on the ceiling light fittings! The whole atmosphere at Cecily was friendly, relaxing and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble, and the staff were so patient even when Jupiter and I asked lots of questions about the treatments!

Jupiter and I finished our day with a lovely gift, an ESPA gift set including body butter, moisturisers and body and bath oils in a beautiful faux leather case.
